About

I help leadership and L&D firms sell implementation, not information.

Hi, I’m Matt.

For years I sat in coffee meetings with founders, showing them how to sell an idea by hand before building anything. They loved it in the meeting. Then most of them went and built the tech anyway, because the manual version isn’t exciting.

Now I see the same pattern with the people I most enjoy working with: founders of leadership and L&D firms. You built a program that changes how people lead, and clients rebook it. Then AI arrived. It can explain your model in ten seconds, and the advice you’re getting is to clone yourself, build an app, or turn the workshop into an online course.

I think that’s backwards. Information is a dime a dozen now. People pay for implementation: practice, feedback and behaviour change on the job. That’s what your clients always paid you for, and it’s what an AI-assisted product built on your model can carry between and after your sessions, without replacing you or the room.

The Lean CPTO is my answer: the judgement of a Chief Product and Technology Officer, applied to your program. In Program to Product we pre-sell it to clients who already trust you, prove it by hand, then grow it into subscriptions. Nothing gets built until a client has paid.

Why I care about duty of care

I started out in financial planning, where duty of care isn’t optional. You don’t sell someone something they don’t need. Tech has no such rule. Firms get quoted for apps and learning platforms nobody has asked for, and AI tools will happily build whatever you prompt. You deserve someone in your corner who will tell you the truth, including when not to build.

My background

  • 20+ years across product, technology, sales and marketing in Australia and Japan, including nearly a decade in Tokyo
  • Years in tech selling software development and offshore developers, so I’ve seen the build side from the inside
  • 10+ years mentoring founders, and running workshops and webinars of my own
  • Three ventures of my own, plus communities and sales functions built from scratch
  • Bilingual in English and Japanese, so I can support firms with Japanese clients

Who I work with

Founders and MDs of leadership and L&D firms, usually 2 to 50 people including associates, who created a signature program and still deliver a lot of it.

If you’re a solo operator with no team or associates, you run L&D inside a company, or your main program is licensed from someone else, I’m not the right fit.
